LIFE IN SOUTH AFRICA
It is very cold in South Africa at the moment. Apart from
the snow capped mountains, many areas in South
Africa have received snow. Durban, because of its sub-
tropical weather received 2 days of non-stop rain.
Since returning to South Africa, we have already
experienced some of the effects that strikes have
caused. The drivers who supply gasoline to gas stations
went on strike as a result of which workers, taxis who
transport workers, and the transportation of food to
stores were greatly affected. I had to turn around from
one gas station in search for another to fill my tank. You
can imagine the impact it has had on the country as a
whole.
Further difficulties involved having no water at our home
for about five days on four separate occasions. The
road on which we live apparently has some old water
pipes. The engineer (whom I contacted), says there is a
project awaiting his manager’s approval to have new
pipes installed. We were also without telephone service
for 2 solid weeks.
If you remember over one and a half years ago, I told
you that South Africa has a new chief in charge of the
police force, who vowed to eliminate corruption. Well, a
few weeks ago he was exposed for corruption by the
media. Seems like it never ends!
THE CHURCHES
All work has been fully resumed at both the Reservoir
Hills and Stanmore church of Christ.
In November this year, Ralton (my nephew, a very active
member at the Reservoir Hills church of Christ) will be
marrying Deshnie (a news reporter). They have
requested that I do their wedding. Many of you may
recall Deshnie, the Hindu who I have had many personal
bible studies with and who has been attending church
services every Sunday. She says she believes, but has
not yet made a commitment to Christ due to her mother’
s insistence of her following Hindu ways while living
under her roof and she fears disrespecting and
offending her mother. Deshnie says she will be free
from her mother’s hold as soon as she is married and
leaves the house..
Both Linda and I are working very closely with her to
help convict her through the scriptures and give her
advice on how to handle the next 3 months under her
mother’s roof with many upcoming Hindu rituals that
Deshnie is made to observe. This is a delicate
situation as we must be extra careful that if she does
decide to obey the gospel she does it for no other
reason but true conviction.
EVANGELISM
One of our supporting congregations, Fayette
church of Christ, emailed me 17 lesson sheets
compiled by a brother who has freely allowed us to
use his material for evangelism. Well it has been
having a very positive impact here especially with
two denominations and others.
Alvin, the one with whom I have had numerous
studies, has decided to use this material for the
youth in His church. Annie, another girl who I have
been talking to about Biblical Christianity has also
chosen to teach their youth. I wonder what their
response would be when they come upon the lesson
that deals with the Lord’s true church and the issue
of musical instruments. I am praying that our Lord
will keep their minds in tune with the truth.
Nivaan, the one who works at Toyota, has been very
instrumental in teaching others all that I have taught
him regarding Biblical Christianity. I was very
impressed when I received this knowledge. Nivaan
will be a good ambassador for Christ if he decides
to immediately live by the truth. This is my prayer.
One of his co-workers Stephanie is one such
person who has been receiving such information.
She is doing this correspondence mentioned above
and will begin coming over to our house for one-on-
one Bible studies next week.
Thank you for your love, prayers, care and support.
To God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ
forever. Amen.

Dear friends and family,
I am very excited to share my life with you and to see how God works through our
relationships!
Many of you know that the past fall, the fall of 2010, I began a Discipleship Training School
(DTS) with the organization Youth With A Mission (YWAM). I completed the program in
February of this year. God changed my life through this DTS. He bated me in with the
prospect of traveling and making a difference in the world then revealed to me what He truly
had for me, a deeper relationship and knowledge of who He is and how real His involvement
in my life is. My DTS gave me a passion to not only continue in missions, but to follow where
God leads, embrace all God has planned for my life, and continue to grow deeper and deeper
into the reality of God and the freedom found in His Son.
During my DTS I learned that because God is real and working in my life, I can grow to know
his voice and to see his guidance in my life. So I asked God to guide my next step after DTS
and I ended up where I am today, Albany, Oregon, spending time with my now 97-year-old
grandpa. God has provided me with a job at a day care, working with children whom I love, a
welcoming church family at my grandpa’s church, friends to grow with in Christ at a campus
ministry (the University Christian Center at OSU), a family that I met through a babysitting
website who has taken me in as their own daughter and mentored me as spiritual parents,
and opportunities to serve and grow in relationship with my grandpa. The Lord’s provision
could go on and on and on; I am overwhelmed thinking of his provision!
My time here has been a time to cherish, but I am ready to take my next step with God. I
recently received my acceptance email from the YWAM program Teachers for the Nations,
based near Tyler, TX. On August 22nd I will begin nine months of training, learning teaching
methods, learning history from a providential point of view (history centered on seeing how
God was working in each event), student teaching at a Christian heritage school, and growing
in my knowledge and intimacy with God. After the nine months there will be a two month
outreach.
I am excited to see what God has in store for me during these eleven months, to grow and
stretch more into the person God created me to be, and to discover more of the vision God
has for my life. I believe this time will open up my heart and my path to opportunities to serve
and help my Father bring his beauty to the brokenness on earth. God never ceases to awe
me.
The nine months of training in Texas will cost a total of $5000 for housing and meals. If you
feel led to or would like to support me financially please contact me at livpetty@aol.com or
call me at (406)580-5466. More importantly, please keep me and the group I will be learning
and working with, in your prayers. Thank you all so much for your love and support and for
being who you are!
Love and blessings,
Livia Petty

HONDURAS MISSION TRIP AUGUST 2012
The Hill Street church is sending a mission team to Santa Ana,
Honduras to work with the Honduras Hope mission. The team
leaves August of 2012.
The vision of Honduras Hope is to closely follow the words of Jesus
in Matthew 25:40 where He says, “Truly I say to you, to the extent
that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of
them, you did it to Me.”
- We will be showing Jesus to a country that is in desperate
need of Him.
- We will be taking food to the Tegucigalpa dump where
hundreds of people live spending their days trying to find
scraps of food to eat and scraps of clothing to wear.
- We will be working at the Casa de Esperanza Children’s
Home where nineteen children who have been orphaned live.
- We will be working on a farm at Zambrano that is used to
grow food for the orphans and the poor and giving
employment to the people who live at the dump.

As I was starting to think and pray about what I wanted to do with my
future after I graduated from high school, I met several people involved or
serving in the AIM program and then learned that Chris Bennett had gone
through the program. I had a small opportunity to talk with both him and his
wife Rachel about their experiences and it became more apparent that God
had big plans for me -- He wanted me to use the talents He had given me to
serve Him and others and this meant leaving my family and taking a leap of
faith---AIM! (Adventures In Missions).
I am nervous and excited about being so far away from home, but I have faith that the Lord will give me the strength
and dedication I need to be successful in meeting my goals. 2 years is a large commitment but I want to be out serving
and helping others so much right now that I have to really stay focused on the present and finish high school! I also
have faith that the Lord will see to it that I have the needed funds for this adventure for which He has chosen me. I will
need about $900/month for the first 8 months and then $1300/month for the next 18 months (appr $30,000), That IS a
lot of money, but that will be money well spent as I give back to God for the blessings he has provided for me.
After my 8 months in Lubbock, I would like to serve in Germany or a country where that language is spoken, as I
speak German, but will be glad to go where ever the need for me is. Ultimately I would like to serve anywhere in
Eastern Europe where the need is strong for missionary work, as many of these countries are still learning to embrace
the Christian religion and come out from under government oppression. I want to share the same freedoms with others
that I have daily.
To learn more about where I will be going and what I will be doing please feel free to take a look at the AIM
website. www.aimsunset.org There is a lot of information there! You will see the focuses of the program and see
how the program works and serves worldwide.
